Fall 2007 was a busy period for Håkan Rosengren, with concerto performances, recitals, chamber music concerts, and masterclasses in Brazil and the United States. In mid-September, Rosengren performed several concerts in Brazil, in the third largest city, Belo Horizonte, including a concerto solo appearance with the Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra, performing Weber’s Concerto no. 1 in F Minor and Debussy’s Premiere Rhapsodie with Marcelo Ramos conducting. Rosengren also performed with pianist Ricardo Castelo Branco in a recital of music by Saint Saens, Debussy, Schumann, and other works. The tour in Brazil was preceded by a trip to Iowa in early September, where Rosengren was the featured artist for the first annual Iowa Clarinet Days in Des Moines sponsored by Drake University and Central College in Iowa. He gave a recital of music by Saint Saens, Debussy, Lutoslawski, and Schumann, collaborating with pianist Anne Epperson. Rosengren taught masterclasses as part of a long weekend event attended by hundreds of clarinetists and clarinet students from around the Midwest. In November 2007, Rosengren again collaborated with his friends in the Chiara String Quartet, this time within the Arts & Entertainment series at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg Kansas. Rosengren and the Chiara Quartet performed Brahms’ Quintet for Clarinet and Strings in B Minor, op. 115 to a packed house. While in Pittsburg, Rosengren also gave a masterclass at Pittsburg University. Rosengren’s busy Spring 2008 season begins with a recital and masterclass at the University of Colorado in February where he will perform with pianist Anne Epperson. In March 2008, Rosengren will be guest soloist with the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra, Marcelo Bussiki conductor, in College Station, Texas, performing Mozart’s Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra. Rosengren will later record Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in November 2008 with the Lithuania National Symphony Orchestra on SMS Classical. The recording will be Rosengren’s second concerto recording this year, as his recording of all of Weber’s Concertos for Clarinet and Orchestra with the North Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Charles Olivieri-Munroe conducting, will be soon released. In late March-early April 2008, a two-week chamber music tour of Sweden brings Rosengren and the Chiara Quartet together again. They will collaborate in Mozart’s Quintet for Clarinet and Strings in A Major, K. 581 and Brahms’ Quintet for Clarinet and Strings in B Minor, op. 115, with concerts in Falkenberg, Lund, throughout Gavleborg, and in the capital city of Stockholm. Spring 2008, Rosengren will again serve as Artistic Director of the Fayetteville Chamber Music Festival, featuring performances by violinist Judith Ingolfsson, cellist Jan Vogler, pianists Peter Nagy and Rick Rowley, and the Chiara String Quartet, who returns for their second year at the Festival. The ten-day Festival includes six concerts, receptions, children’s concerts, open rehearsals, and lectures. Featured repertoire includes music by Brahms, Dvorak, Mozart and also recently re-discovered music by Swedish romantic women composers. More information including exact dates, times, locations, repertoire, and ticket information can be found at the Festival’s website: www.fayettevillemusic.org.
